BARNES Carpentry was founded in 1991, by Vernon "Skip" Barnes, a civil engineering designer, near the end of that periods recession. A temporary position with a Washington, DC area contractor allowed him to work closely with tradesmen of various types in the remodeling industry and to learn techniques unique to their trades. He found the carpentry duties, and how they made the plans come together, interesting enough to start evaluateing and learning their trade. His first project was the building of a backyard shop at his Dale City, Virginia home. After request from neighbors to build similar structors, and various other projects, the business of BARNES Carpentry was started.
